I am currently pursuing a career in accounting with the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA), a global body for professionals, whose aim is to offer business-relevant, first-choice qualifications to people of application, ability and ambition around the world who seek a rewarding career in accountancy, finance and management. I would like to complete the second and final level of the ACCA program at Stouffville College in Canada which is one of the OAS member states. ACCA has entered into partnership with Oxford Brookes University (OBU) where examinations would be graded by both the ACCA body and also by the OBU. Upon completion of the second level and submission of a research and analysis project, a Bachelor of Science with Honours will be awarded in Applied Accounting from OBU. Business is an intricate and fast-paced field which has challenging employment options. The career opportunities and qualified candidates are so enormous that organizations become highly selective in choosing competent aspirants to various positions. After being conferred with a degree in Accounting, I am aware that professional movement in this specialized field is easily maximized. I would like to explore the potentials of specializing in taxation and heading other departments – not only to be confined to Accounting. The extensive responsibilities and functions assigned to accountant as tax specialists are highly motivating and enticing that professionalizing this field is a viable move. One of the benefits that the degree in accounting accords is the ability to recognize that change is a necessary component in any organization in order to respond to inefficiencies, conflicts and developments in the environment, especially of an identified country. My country is St. Lucia, one of the Windward Islands of the eastern Caribbean, just south of Martinique. It is currently undertaking an initiative to develop a single economic unit through the Caricom Single Market Economy (CSME).
