National Environmental Policy Act
Intent: that environmental factors are given the same consideration as other factors in decision making by the feds.
Provisions:
- 1969
- declaration of national Environmental Policies and Goals
- establishment of action-forcing provisions for federal agencies to implement those policies and goals
- CEQ (Council on Environmental Quality) establishment in executive office of President

Endangered Species Act
Intent: to protect/conserve endangered and threatened species and to conserve the habitats in which they lived, signed in 1973
Provisions: prohibits "take" of listed species (section 4) defined as "harass, harm, pursue, hunt, shoot, wound, kill, trap, capture, or collect"

Clean Air Act
Intent: to protect human health and environment by protecting ambient air quality (the air we breathe)
Provisions:
- defined national goals in form of ambient air standards
- directed states to prepare State Implementation Plans (SIP)
- directed EPA to set standards for controlling emissions of hazardous air pollutants
- set limits for emissions from cars and trucks

Clean Water Act
Intent: to eliminate pollutant discharges into navigable waters of the U.S.
Provisions:
- set up national pollutant discharge and elimination system permits
- health based standards for bodies of water
- technology standards for industrial discharges
- wetland and dredge and fill permits
- non point source provisions
- construction grants provisions

Oil Pollution Act
Intent: to prevent oil spills and minimize their impact
Provisions:
- requires shipping to have a spill response plan
- strict liability for damages
- feds manage oil spill cleanup operations
- requirements for vessels to prevent spills

Safe Drinking Water Act
Intent: to insure drinking water in the U.S. is safe
Provisions:
- set drinking water standards
- set up underground injection control program to protect ground water

Program Management: those activities you need to implement to accomplish your goals
Resource Management: what those activities require for successful implementation (staff, funding, time, materials)
Political Management: how you will obtain those resources
