How has your learning affected preconceptions you brought with you into class? - I am from China, my country is a developing country, the United States as a developed country in my original perception of rural health should not be a big problem, but in fact rural areas are also facing a lot of economic facilities and other basic problems. 2. What are key insights from this course that influenced your understanding of rural health issues? - economy and all the infrastructure issues. I remember a guest speaker saying that tap water was rare in one of the places they went to 3. What have you learned that has influenced how you think about rural health outcomes, rural social determinants of health and rural health care delivery systems? - I originally thought telemedical and doctors communicated remotely to consult with each other, but telemedical actually covers a lot of areas. 4. Identify an organization or individual dedicated to improving rural health outcomes (discussed in class) that you find most inspiring. Explain why the organization or individual inspires you. - From 10/20 guest speaker response - I was touching by their effort of helping low-income people to get medical health support as they meet many obstacles during their job, such as culture gap between each state - Culture shot -> difficult. People have different thought as they thought there is no need to make a connection with the health supporters as they would only two years. So this is another difficulty for them to go their job I thought the United States as a developed country would not have many low-income areas, but through the guest speaker's account I realized that there are still so many areas with low income. - America still under serves with no tap water, meaning they have to make lots of effort to change the healthy situation. - From 10/27 guster speaker response To my surprise that 50% of Maine’s Land is uninhabited They make the cancer death down, as I know many cancer is hard to cure. They put mental health service as the priority They have 16 hospitals - -They focus on supplementing medical knowledge in schools which is very important and they use different pay. I think that paid different is Important for rural area. I think the difference between them and before is that they spread a lot of knowledge about health, not just to treat diseases 5. How has specific course content influenced how you think about your career and life goals? - There are still many problems with rural health, although I am not a medical student. But I am going to learn about computer science and hope to research telemedical technology for rural areas in the future. It can be applied to all ages. Students will deliver a 3-minute persuasive speech or create a 1-2 page fact sheet in which they explain: 1) the health technology, 2) how it works, 3) evidence of its impact on the health outcomes, and 3) the systems and resources required to successfully utilize the technology. • Students will be expected to reference at least ONE article from an academic source focused on an aspect of health technologies and if presenting, will use only ONE Powerpoint slide (without animation) to capture and motivate their peers to take action. 20 Finding an academic Health Technology article 21 S-L Group Time Memorandum of Understanding – important to find agreement before beginning deliverable development work. • What are your deliverables? • When will they be completed? • How will you seek information and receive feedback from the S-L Partner? 22
