Term Paper: The student will write and submit a formal typed term paperconsisting of a minimum of ten(10) pages with at least 8 references someof which must be from books and journals. This paper should be donein APA style (one inch margins, pagination, title page, internal citations,references etc.). using the APA Publication Manual, 7th edition.The APA manual 7th edition should be followed. No running headshould be placed in upper left hand corner. The student should also use thesubheadings noted in this outline to divide the paper into sections. The studentshould write a paper on a specific residential or institutional correctionalrehabilitation program or develop a preliminary program adhering to the outlinebelow to be followed:Introduction: Describe the purpose and scope of the paper.History and Scope of the Program: Describe how the program is developed as wellas identify its basic theoretical orientation, objectives, goals, and programelements.Description of Specific Program Elements: This would include a descriptionof each specific program element, the staff including their qualifications, dutiesand functions, and a description of the number and basic characteristics ofresidents in the program. A good question for the researcher to askoneself is” what is a typical day for the juvenile offender in this program?” Evenplacing a schedule of events and describing each one would be helpful.Additionally, it is important to describe the tasks of each element in detail.For instance, if a juvenile has to go to individual counseling,what is donein this regard to help change criminal behavior and reduce recidivism? Also,any specifics of groups should be described, whether it is a behavior group,victim empathy group, living skills group, faith-based intervention, chemicaldependency, or some sort of educational group. In the description of the program,it is important that the researcher identify how the behaviors of offenders aremanaged, i.e. what are the rules and consequences?(Be specific for specificallydescribed behaviors). How does the environment maintain safety?What is adequate supervision? What is the philosophy of safety? What are theare the security procedures and the system of rewards and sanctions?. Is therea level system? If so, describe this and how decisions are made to progressin the level system.What are the tools for youth to develop personal selfcontrol over their behavior? How long is a typical stay in the program to reach theoptimum treatment standards? Describe the educational program (GED etc)and vocational skills development. Also, describe the religious element ofthe program, purpose, elements and how it is conducted. Are their specializedinterventions for special needs youth(chemically dependent, emotionallydisturbed, capital offenders, sex offenders etc.?) If so, describe.Community Reintegration: How does the program provide for effectivereintegration into the community? How does it provide follow-up supportfor maintaining progress? How does it facilitate youth becoming productivemembers of society? What further education/training, employment andhelp do youth receive?Strengths and Weaknesses of the Program: Discuss the specific strengthsof the program including the education and rehabilitative aspects indicatinghow the program is helpful. Provide reasons why certain elements arehelpful including what research has found regarding the element in programeffectiveness. Discuss the weaknesses of the program and, based onresearch and personal observation, show how the weaknesses mayhave not been helpful in other programs. Provide well thought out possiblesolutions for program enhancement taking into consideration costs,staffing patterns and other criteria.Summary and Conclusions: Briefly summarize your paper and discuss theprogram in light of effective program criterion mentioned in the text and otherresources.
