READINESS FOR SKILLS LAB INTENSIVE
Uncertainty about the intensive portion of Skills Lab next week could cause nervousness, anxiety, or maybe even fear. These feelings are nothing unusual when embarking on important phases in your educational experience. One way to turn uncertainty into excitement is to be better informed about what is to come.
There a few ways you can look ahead and look forward to next week. First, review next week’s resources and materials and download those you need. Then, use the checklist in the Learning Resources to get a better sense of how prepared you are and adjust accordingly. Finally, in this Discussion, you will engage with your colleagues about preparation, goals, and questions related to next week’s Skills Lab Intensive.

· Describe one thing based on the checklist that you have done to prepare for the Skills Lab Intensive.
· Describe one goal you have for the Skills Lab Intensive.
· Ask any questions you may have about the Skills Lab Intensive.
There is no required follow-up response to this Discussion, although you are encouraged to engage with your colleagues. What advice or tips could you learn from or offer to your colleagues?
Skills Lab Intensive Preparation Checklist
To prepare for the intensive portion of Skills Lab that occurs next week, be sure to complete or answer the following. Some apply to the in-person Skills Lab intensive, some to virtual, and some apply to either way of engaging with the experience.
· Save the Student Skills Inventory to your computer.
· Print the Student Skills Inventory.
· Download each day’s ZIP file from Week 4.
· Unzip the files, and then print the files.
· Confirm that your computer is ready for regular use in a variety of settings. Is your ability to connect to the internet reliable? Is your power source functioning and available?
· Do you have professional dress ready for all days?
· Is your virtual workspace camera ready?
· Do you have headphones and a microphone?
· Are you able to focus on just the one task of virtual Skills Lab Intensive?
· Have you prepared your family, work, and other important people in your community for your absence and limited availability? (Tip: This applies to in-person or virtual Skills Lab Instensive.)
· Have you confirmed your travel plans if you are attending a face-to-face Skills Lab Intensive/Residency?
· Do you have your Student Skills Inventory and other materials printed and saved electronically?
