Hello Class,
My top three priorities over the next three years is to…
Finish nursing school and pass the NCLEX
Stay focused on improving my daily habits to make them as healthy as can be for my lifestyle.
Get a job in the PICU in a children’s hospital and start looking at schools for my masters program.
The three things I need to change in order to reach these goals are…
I need to stay focused on my goals. I need to remind myself of why I am doing this and what I want out of all of this. I chose to go to nursing school so I need to make the most out of it.
I need to prioritize and organize things in my life. I need to come up with a game plan that best fits me and try to execute it as best as I can.
I need to give myself grace and realize I am only human and doing my best. Yes I need to stay focused on my goals but I need to be able to give myself a break when I need one.
To handle stress I will continue to give myself mental breaks when needed but not fall behind in school work because I will then only become more stressed. I don’t find myself stressing often because I do believe God let everything happen for a reason. If it’s something I cannot control I don’t stress over it because I cannot determine the outcome. Things I can control I tend to stress over a little bit more but I will make a plan on how I can fix the issue. “Stress has been identified as an important psychosocial factor in the educational process because it may influence academic performance and student well-being” (Li et al. 2018 p.2728) To cope with stress I often take breaks. Whether I am meeting up with my sister to have lunch, taking my dogs to the dog park, or going to Dairy Queen to get some ice cream, I take breaks when I need them to cope with stress.
Some of the best tips I have received from upperclassmen was don’t stress over getting A’s because the hospital doesn’t care if you got an A or a C in Pharmacology, as long as you pass the class. Another tip I received from upperclassmen was to treat yourself after you have finished a class or have taken an exam. Don’t sit and dwell on the class or the grade you received on the exam, treat yourself and move on.
