Assignment 1 2
When I consider the duties of an Early Childhood Teacher, there are many but the ten that come
to my mind would be:
1. Develop a sense of schedule and routine
2. Implement lessons
3. Provide a safe and comfortable environment
4. Provide an age-appropriate environment
5. Address differences and unique qualities of students
6. Observe and note progress
7. Communicates with parents
8. Work with other teachers that are involved within the classroom
9. Provide a proper, consistent discipline routine or action plan.
10. Listen to your students and make them feel as if each one is just as important as the other.
I feel as if these duties are similar in some way to other educators who are teaching
different grade bands but also different. Overall, it is every teacher’s duty to make sure that a
child feels safe, comfortable, and is treated equally in the classroom. As a child ages, the
priorities in school change, however. When you get older, teachers stray away from your feelings
and communication skills and start to really work on the educational skills that are leading you
into your adulthood.
When people collaborate, they can have the opportunity to learn and grow from each other.
“Collaborating as a teaching team can fuel group spirit and develop process skills that help
teachers interact in more productive ways” (Maeroff, 1993). It allows teachers or anyone to see
things from an unfamiliar perspective as well as different ways to do things. Students are given a
better education when teachers work together, especially students who are involved in an
inclusive classroom. “General education teachers learn from special education teachers, and the

we can all learn something from each other.

In this chapter, I learned about determining the individual differences in skills, capabilities,
and behaviors, in addition to the ways in which these variations could demand differing
degrees of support in order to succeed in school. Also take into account how that these
characteristics might require various types of assistance. In addition to that, I gained further
knowledge on differentiated instruction. According to the reading, “Differentiated instruction
is a process that involves matching the content and instructional approach to individual
students’ learning needs in order to accelerate the learning of all students.” (Ysseldyke &
Witmer, 2016)
To be successful, I think I need to learn more on the subject of the need of amassing a variety
of data in order to be able to draw a range of conclusions that are to the student’s advantage. I
feel that if I am able to collect relevant data in the classroom, it will be much simpler for me
to develop lesson plans and techniques that will cater to the needs of my students and build
upon the abilities they already possess. This is because I will have more information to work
with. If I have access to the right data, I can improve the teaching abilities I already possess.
My level of understanding regarding the topics presented in this module’s chapter are
moderate. As someone who has worked as a paraprofessional in special education, I have
expertise collecting various kinds of data with the purpose of using that data to change
individualized education programs (IEPs), if that becomes necessary. When dealing with kids
who have impairments, having access to data is essential for monitoring the interventions that
are currently being implemented. The Individualized Education Program (IEP) is a dynamic
document that shifts in response to changes in the student’s requirements, and data is essential
for keeping track of these shifts in need.

What I liked best from this chapter is the laws, ethical considerations, and test standards
section. It is absolutely necessary for the efficacy of a teacher to gain as much information as
is humanly feasible on the regulations that regulate general education as well as special
education. It will be much simpler to bring about changes in the laws that are already in
effect, changes that will better meet the educational needs of children, if one has a greater
grasp of the laws that are currently in place. What I think I will use the most in my future or
current classroom is student observation. The reading states, “Observations can provide highly
accurate, detailed, and verifiable information not only about the person being assessed but
also about the surrounding contexts. Observations can be categorized as either nonsystematic
or systematic.” (Ysseldyke & Witmer, 2016)
After reading this modules chapters, and completing all the activities, I can discuss, explain,
and demonstrate how the establishment of test standards encourages the development of tests
that have a better level of technical sufficiency. Also, I can explain the primary laws that have
an impact on evaluation, as well as the particular provisions of individualized education
programs, least restrictive environments, and due process. Completion of the reading I can
describe the seven distinct types of educational choices that can be informed by assessment re
sults. Another topic that I am able to talk about and explain is the evolution of testing
standards and the influence they have.
The learning activity that helped me more than any other was chapter comprehension
questions. The questions assisted me in determining how well I understood the chapters that I
had just read. If there was a chunk of the reading that I could not recall, I could go back into
the chapter and reread the relevant passages in order to better understand how to respond to
the questions. The scenario in assessment is incredibly useful to me. Having the scenarios

helps me picture myself in the situation and consider the many approaches I may take to deal
with it. Since each student is unique, there is no one right way to respond to a given situation;
thus, you need to be able to recognize each student as an individual and be adaptable in the
ways in which you connect with them.

1. What are some important steps in interpreting data from high stakes assessments?
2. What does the law say about the instruction and assessment of students with disabilities?
3. Why is it important that students with disabilities have access to the general education curriculum? What are some ways to help these students to access the general education curriculum?
4. What are accommodations? Modifications? Alternate assessments? When should each of these be used?

Homework Assignment 3 Here is the book link
Knackendoffel, A., Dettmer, P., & Thurston, L. (2017). Collaborating, Consulting, and Working in Teams for Students with Special Needs (8th ed.). Pearson.
Think about your field of study (Early Childhood Education (ECE), Middle Childhood Education (MCE), Adolescent Young Adult/High School (AYA), Intervention Specialist/Special Education (INS)), and the duties that you will perform in a regular school year.
Write down 10 of those duties. Based on your field of study, how different do you think your duties will be compared to other educators teaching different grade bands? How can collaborating with different educators support the educational growth of the student? How can collaboration support your growth as an educator? Explain in a minimum of 1-2 pages, including evidence from the text.
Note: For both experienced and non-experienced, compare your answers with the text’s suggestions. Is your experience similar to the text? Are they different? Explain using APA format (consisting of a title page, in-text citations and evidence from the text, and a reference page). You can find more guidance on using APA format in the APA Folder. All assignments that are not in APA format will be subjected to point deductions.
