Societal challenges continue to highlight the need for welcoming diversity and cultures into the organization. Based on your own experiences, what are some of the practices that invite and delineate organizations that welcome diversity and cultures?
The organization that I work at is always trying to welcome diversity and culture into the community in several ways. One of the ways is allowing college students from different parts of the world to come and experience working with a poverty stricken community. Some of the other ways that my organization works is to have different educational and work experiences for those in a community that usually lacks the opportunities. There is a community survey that we give to the community by partnering with other individuals in the community to go out and do a community needs assessment once a year. This assessment gathers information form the individuals giving them the opportunity to say what exists and what need to exist in the community. Sometimes it is difficult to get the accurate information because they fear allowing others to know their personal situations. Therefore, we have to find ways to build their trust beforehand and during the assessments. One of the ways we do this is to offer opportunities for their children or families such as childcare, work and educational opportunities. We have met many societal challenges and yet so many more challenges still exist, however, we are still appreciated in the communities we serve and are often mirrored by others. We are a grant funded organization, therefore, we are always trying to help the community learn and continue to do what we do after we are no longer around for sustainability purposes (Zastrow, 2012).

What are some of the salient characteristics defining culture in your organization or group? Provide at least one example.
The “organizational culture” of a company includes its mission, objectives, standards, and values. These concepts and principles are shaped by leaders before being spread and reinforced. Strong senses of camaraderie and a willingness to work together define a company’s culture. At my current job, the purpose is the job is what is being reinforced. In Jacksonville, Florida, I work for a non-profit that provides case management services to many of the necessary regions. The goal is for the families to become self-sufficient within 6 to 9 months so that the case can be closed. The vast majority of the patients come from DCF, schools, and government organizations. Where I work, the majority of leaders establish a distinct mission for the business; this serves as the motivational engine for workers. When an organization is in line with a greater goal, performance improves. Trust is increased and an organization’s growth is accelerated by those having a purpose. In my current position, organizational cultures reflect individual employee interests, viewpoints, and beliefs, which contribute to the success of our organization. Our company considers everyone’s culture and works very hard to incorporate the views and suggestions of its workers. Our office is lively and dynamic, which helps to create a strong business culture and makes everyone pleased and motivated to execute their jobs

Organizations are impacted by societal changes. As a leader, what organizational changes would you consider essential due to ongoing challenges emerging from current societal circumstances such as those of a post-pandemic society?
Culture in organizations can be very complicated. Every organization has a distinct personality, just like every individual. Our company’s culture determines its personality. After the pandemic, I think more people preferred to stay in. I find it more pleasant to work from home and perform zooms. My employment compels me to visit people’s homes, but I still find it uncomfortable. This component of organizational culture is highly valued in our company, and teamwork is the foundation of all work operations. Most people who work together on cases seem to be substantially happy and form healthy relationships. We are recommended to interact with your coworker by going to the residence at least twice a week. Getting other people’s perspectives on a challenging situation is incredibly helpful. There will always be difficulties, but there will also be fresh solutions as the world comes closer to the endemic. The pandemic’s ripple effects on personnel, distribution networks, sustainability and inclusion, and other areas are currently some of the serious challenges. We each experienced the pandemic differently. There was no manual on how to handle it, but there was a movement toward self-care, where we allowed ourselves time and patience in our vulnerability to work through it. In the end, life will never be the same. There has been a great deal of hardship and loss of life around the world, and those effects will be felt for years to come. However, for those who are fortunate enough to begin returning to “normal,” this is a chance for us to collectively rethink what that means.
