1. Review a School Report Card of the school in which you are working. If you are not working in a school, use this link (NYC School Report Card

3. Based on the School Report Card and Focus Learner Profile, provide a professional rationale for your areas of strength (“glows”) and refinement (“grows”) that addresses the following:
· What do you do well?
· What do you want to improve and why? How will it impact student achievement?
· How does the information from the school profile impact how you will address cultural relevance as you teach in this school?
4. Please think about what the information on the report card helps you understand about the school environment. What does the data represent with respect to performance on the high stake’s exams? What does that lead them to understand about teaching and learning. I know we placed specific questions in the module.
5. Please think about what the information on the report card helps you understand about the school environment. Examine the demographics and the state exam scores. What does the data represent with respect to performance on the high stake’s exams? What does that lead you to understand about teaching and learning with the school population.

Example :
In my baseline survey upon a reflection of my current and previous educational experiences I highlighted several areas where I glowed or perform well in and other areas that I need to grow in or work on developing further. In my response I stated that my grow is that I do well with incorporating students interests into my lessons, that way students feel a sense of connection to what they are learning, they are interested in the content because it is relatable to their likes and an increase in their participation is likely to occur. On the other hand my grow, or area of refinement consisted of a change in the manner in which I present or deliver instructions or my lesson as whole, for example as opposed to providing students with a worksheet hand out activity or read aloud having students do an activity that involves moving around or manipulating objects would be more stimulating and increase the chances of students becoming more actively engaged in the lesson and their learning. It is this educator’s professional rationale behind these glows and grow experiences to be justifies by the resources that I am provided with at my school, my own personal experiences of growing up in public school and the age group and classroom community in which I am teaching which is 3K. My students are young and tend to lose focus when not stimulated by m movement or something relatable and exciting to them so I try my best to incorporate their likes and dislikes into my lesson, on the other hand my presentation skills lack understanding in that I sometimes feel that my students are not “old enough” to have technology incorporated into the classroom, we also have scarce resources or supplies of technological devices at my site so that also plays a part in my rationale. It was only upon a self-reflection that I realized that I was doing a disservice to my students by not taking their capabilities to learn and adapt into consideration, so now I am able to adapt more varieties of designs when presenting a lesson through visuals and my personal laptop that I use to show students. If I continue to be more considerate of the abilities of my students and not set limitations while continuously using fun and innovative interactive ways to present information, then my students will surely be more excited about their learning and the changes of disengagement will decrease. Reflecting on cultural relevance in accordance to culturally responsive teaching it is important as an educator to consider all the different cultures that one has in their classroom but also consider what some students may have been exposed to or not exposed to. In my inability to integrate technology in the classroom I depicted an implicit bias because of my students age, I was under the impression that because my students were so young including technology in the classroom would prove to be a challenge and so I was not being a great culturally responsive educator then, but now that I am aware of it I try to adapt it into my lesson at least twice a week. Although my current school is an outside vendor running a DOE program, I am doing my student teaching at The Wortman School K273 and was able to access the school report card. In my findings I discovered that the school demographic had a high occupancy of was 69% African American students and Hispanic Latin American students 29%. This school is categorized as a high needs school and scored in the low percentile rank on city wide state exams. On the school’s percentage scoring table summary results on state exams showed that students scored high in the level 2 ranking and proficient ranking. This information on the school report card would serve well to show me what percentage or group of students are struggling in which content area; it also sheds light on how the pandemic has had an academic effect on student performance. It also informs me about the socio environmental factors that may contribute to students scoring for example the percentage of students who are homeless or students with disabilities or even in foster care. Knowing this information an educator would have a better understanding in the culture of student demographic within their classroom, thereby planning the appropriate approach with consideration to students’ home or personal life. In my opinion this school should be categorized as a title 1 school, which is defined as a “federal funding stream hat supplements how much money each state allocates for schools. There are other “Title” funds too, I-VII, all aiming to aid students who have burdens that may get in the way of accessing an equitable education.” (EXPLAINED: What Is Title I and How Is It Used to Fund Our Schools?, n.d.). By examining students’ performance educators like me can also reflect on their delivery design and make some modifications. Reflecting on one’s own work and presentation is essential because sometimes it may not be that students to not understand the material, but instead they need it to be presented in a different manner which is why my grow is to alter the way in which I introduce, assess and execute my lesson. To spark students interest material and lesson need to be engaging and students should be able to form real life connections and form critical thinking behind content.
