Assignment
Purpose:
Understand the types of ancillary systems available and how they interact with the EHR
Task:
Draw an interface diagram that includes an EHR, a LIS, and a PACS or RIS.
Look at page 14 of the lecture and Google the term “interface diagram EHR,” and check out the diagrams on the “images” tab in your search result window.
Make a systems diagram with arrows and identify what information would need to be interfaced between systems. For example, the EHR would send the order information to the RIS, and the RIS would send the image pointer to the EHR.
Create your diagram using Word, Visio, Excel, etc. or Draw a diagram on paper and submit a picture – if you choose to draw your diagram and submit a picture, make sure your writing is legible, or submit a word document describing the flow of the data with your submission.
Criteria for Success:
10 points possible
· 2 points for submitting a diagram with an EHR as a source or destination for data
· 2 points for including an LIS as a source or destination for data
· 2 points for including a PACS or RIS as a source or destination for data
· 2 points for identifying the direction that data flows to and from a PACS or RIS
· 1 point for arrow indicating the flow of data from the EHR to the RIS or PACS system and the type of data included in that interface
· 1 point for arrows indicating the flow of data from the RIS or PACS system and indicating the type of data included in that interface
· 2 points for identifying the direction that data flows to and from a LIS
· 1 point for arrow indicating the flow of data from the EHR to the LIS system and the type of data included in that interface
· 1 point for arrows indicating the flow of data from the LIS system and indicating the type of data included in that interface
