Nursing
The major project due in Module 8 is going to be a portfolio of work leading up to a resume and cover letter. For this assignment, I want you to analyze the job posting you located for the Job Posting Audience Analysis and analyzed in the Job Posting Persuasive Analysis. The resume and cover letter you submit here is a
draft of what will be due in the final portfolio in Module 8. The instructions included below are for the
final draft, but you will receive full credit for this submission so long as you submit a draft at any stage of completion.
Cover Letter
The first page of this single-document submission should be a one page, single spaced cover letter. The cover letter must be four paragraphs long (intro, conclusion, and two body paragraphs) and must contain a thesis that addresses both your appropriateness for the position (why you would be the best choice) and indicates the topic of each body paragraph that follows (and thus supports your claim that you are the best fit for the position). The cover letter must be formatted as a letter (see page 148/section 9.4, figure 9.3 of the text book for an example). The intro must clearly identify the position being applied for, and the conclusion must offer contact information.
Resume
The second page of this single-document submission should be a one-page, single spaced resume. The resume must be a standard resume. Use the example on page 143/section 9.3, figure 9.1 of the textbook for an example, but do not follow the example blindly! You are required to use bullet points for the information provided under each job and degree title. An objective statement should be included, but it should be no longer than one line (including any header), and should not contain any nouns or pronouns. The font should be no larger than 12 points (except in headers), and all lists should be parallel.
Be sure to utilize the information from the textbook regarding organization of information (Chapter 5 from Module 3) and lists (from Module 6).
Use these documents (available in a

to help organize your Cover Letter and Resume. There are some notes in parenthesis to help you along as well. Your documents do not have to match these; however, your documents should be easy to read with a clear goal, and your resume must be a skills resume.
Remember the goal of an Cover Letter is to persuade the hiring committee to see how the experience on your resume is a great fit for their position, not to “retell” the resume in narrative form.
Resume Tips
· The summary statement should only be one sentence and reflect the job advertisement (use keywords)
· Use strong action verbs throughout
· Be consistent in your organization
· Create clear headers
· Make sure that the sections are formatted similarly

Mr. James Rodriguez, Hiring Manager

Dear Mr. Rodriguez:
I am writing this letter in response to the posting for a Surgical Assistant (#1234) recently posted
on the Madeup Hospital career’s website. For the past two years, I have been working at
Certified Nursing Assistant at Another Pretend Hospital while working towards my nursing
degree. I believe that the experience I’ve gained through my education and previous experience
as a CNA make me an ideal candidate for this position.
My Tarrant County College Associate of Arts degree has given me a solid foundation to help
maximize my thinking strategies. I have developed excellent communication skills to improve
workflow by giving speeches and working conjointly with peers to give presentations. These
communication and workflow skills were most recently tested when I had the opportunity to
coordinate a large group project for a fully online course. While each member had a conflicting
schedule, I was able to set up a Microsoft Teams area for asynchronous collaboration as well as a
spreadsheet that allowed each member to communicate with the team at the time that functioned
best for them. At the end of the semester, this team was responsible for presenting one chapter of
information as a lecture, and I was elected by my team to take the lead on this important verbal
and visual communication.
As a CNA at Another Pretend Hospital, I’ve learned to utilize clear and concise communication
in another context while learning about the culture and demands of the nursing profession. In this
field, I believe that one should always be a great communicator. This is a trait that I have always
worked on in order to give a patient the best quality care. Communication is a critical skill in
representing not only the physician, but also the hospital as a whole. I have also refined my
critical thinking skills in order to respond to the fast-paced environment and needs of the team I
am a part of. While this work is demanding, and I can see from the excellent examples I am
surrounded by each day that a nursing career is even more so, I believe that the work and effort
are always worthwhile.
Thank you for taking the time to consider me, and I look forward to discussing this position with
you further. I can be contacted any time at 123-456-7890 or at thisisasample@gmailyahoo.com.
Sincerely,
T. C. Toro
