PART A
This week we are going over Mean and Median. Note that the mean and median are not the same thing (see powerpoint). They are both used in everyday instances that we may or may not realize. I’m a big baseball fan. Every time I watch baseball and the batting average appears; this is a form of a mean. If someone is hitting .400, then this shows me that for every 10 at bats, on average, that player will get 4 hits. On a larger scale, this partly how Vegas assigns odds to sporting events, etc. This is just one example of how we use mean or median in our everyday lives.
Now, your turn. Don’t use the baseball example though. What is at least one way you or we as a society use mean or median everyday? Give an example where you have or do use a mean or median. You are also welcome to use larger-scale examples that may not relate to you personally but are a part of society. Be as detailed as possible in your answer.
