Practicum Site: It is a Substance Abuse Outpatient Treatment Program where counseling is provided for substance use, mental health and medication assisted treatment (MAT).
1.Intervention and Evaluation
In the generalist intervention model, social workers develop an intervention as a plan to address the need, followed by an evaluation to measure if the intervention plan is effective. For this discussion:
· Discuss one intervention and evaluation, based on your experience in the practicum, that has been used to address a client, organization, community, family, or group need.
· Explain how you can use one of the interventions from the readings in your practicum to develop a plan to address group, organization, or community needs.
· Share 2 examples of how intervention and evaluation models could use in psychiatric informed care.
2. Termination and Follow-Up
Social workers are expected to understand the length of time that therapy, services, and counseling are provided to the client. At the end of the service period, termination occurs. In this stage of the generalist intervention model, the client-social worker relationship concludes and the client is often expected to continue on as a self-reliant advocate, based on the intervention plan. It is important to prepare and empower clients for termination by referring to this time and date and by supporting understanding and acceptance of this stage in the intervention process.
For this discussion, after reading the unit content:
· Discuss with your site supervisor and other staff how they approach termination.
· Share how termination is discussed with clients to prepare them for this stage.
· Discuss how your site uses follow-up with clients after termination. Keep in mind, follow-up is the stage where the social worker checks in to learn of the continued effectiveness of the intervention plan and assess ongoing progress.
· Suggest 2 other ways to prepare clients for the termination. One suggestion is for when working with families, and the other suggestion is for when working with domestic violence and sexual assault victims.
