My chosen pop culture text is the television series The Crown. In my proposal, I will be using a feminist rhetorical critique to analyze the sequence. The Crown is a popular show that explores the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and the British monarchy (Morgan, 2016). I chose this text because I am interested in exploring the complexities of female power in the patriarchal society portrayed in The Crown. It is valuable to analyze this text because it helps us understand how gender roles, power dynamics, and societal expectations of women have changed and evolved. It also provides insight into how the role of a female monarch is often portrayed and understood in a modern context. According to Brummett, B. (2022), feminist critics seek empowerment via more extensive and inclusive perspectives rooted in female experiences and bodies. Thus, a feminist rhetorical critique of The Crown can be used to analyze the representation of female power in the show and how the show portrays the Queen as both a powerful ruler and a woman constrained by her gender.
To understand the context of The Crown, it is essential to consider the historical context of the British monarchy and the role of women in the monarchy. This series is set in the mid-20th century, a time of significant change in the United Kingdom. The British monarchy had declined since World War II’s end, and Queen Elizabeth II was the first female monarch to ascend to the throne in a long time. This period was also a time of significant social change, with women entering the workforce in greater numbers and fighting for their rights. Therefore, it is essential to analyze The Crown with an understanding of the historical context in which the show is set.
The feminist rhetorical critique of The Crown provides a lens through which to analyze the power dynamics between the characters in the series. This critique method is particularly relevant to this show because it explores the complex power dynamics between the characters, especially between the male and female characters. Using a feminist rhetorical critique, we can gain insight into how gender roles and expectations of women in power are portrayed and questioned in the show. Additionally, this critique method allows us to analyze how gender roles have changed over time and how female power is portrayed and understood in a modern context. Brummett, B. (2022) illustrates that a feminist rhetorical critique seeks to uncover the hidden power dynamics between the characters that are often overlooked. This critique method is beneficial in exploring the power dynamics in The Crown.
When using a feminist rhetorical critique to analyze The Crown, it is essential to consider how the show portrays and examines the power dynamics between the male and female characters. The show often portrays the Queen as a powerful ruler and a woman constrained by gender. The show often highlights the restrictions placed on the Queen, such as her inability to marry a man of her choice and express her opinions openly (Ramos, 2021). The show also explores how the Queen is forced to conform to societal expectations of a female monarch and how she attempts to push back against these expectations. It is an essential aspect of the show and provides an interesting insight into the power dynamics between the male and female characters.

This paper will analyze the popular Netflix original series, The Crown, using Marxist criticism. It will focus on how power is presented in the show, how it operates in the narrative, and how it shifts throughout the series. By examining the different classes and power dynamics of the British aristocracy, this analysis will look at how this informs how power is depicted in The Crown and how it further suggests the limits and capabilities of the class system. Ultimately, this paper seeks to examine how this power structure reinforces and disrupts traditional power dynamics and how it can be used to dive deeper into the issues of class and power today.
The Crown is a historical drama initially released on Netflix in 2016. Created by Peter Morgan, the show follows the life and reign of Queen Elizabeth II of England, beginning in the late 1950s and continuing through her later years. Though the show mainly focuses on the dynamics between the British Royal family, their inner conflicts, and their relationships with outside people, it also highlights the power dynamics of the British aristocracy. It denotes the traditional roles of power within the monarchy and the limited freedoms of public activities during the time.
The Crown’s exploration of power also extends to the perspectives of individual characters, especially throughout Elizabeth’s journey from young princess to Queen (Morgan, 2016). Throughout the series, the audience can witness her ascension to power and the strain and anxiety it creates within the family and its structures. In addition, The Crown also examines the power dynamics between various groups within society, like politicians, the monarchy, and the public. It touches on the struggle for power between the rival political factions and highlights how power shifts as events and decisions occur.
The Crown provides a unique opportunity to view the power dynamics within the British monarchy and its operation within the sociopolitical climate of England at the time. Through its exploration of social class and power, the show also offers insight into the current state of power, suggesting how much has changed and how much has remained the same. Ultimately, this detailed examination of power dynamics provides an essential frame of reference to understand better the establishment, function, and complexities of power both in the past and the present.

Analysis of The Crown as a pop culture text is imperative since using a feminist rhetorical critique procedure is reliable for improving advanced study methods. Women empowerment is crucial to facilitate advanced social development when the involved persons are served with reliable process operations. According to Keohane (2020), the procedure performed to enhance female empowerment procedures is directly connected to them holding a leadership position so that there can be an advanced social management procedure. Analysis of cultural artifacts on things like TV programs, music, and publications is a suitable method of sharing a depiction of women getting empowered (Miniesy et al., 2021). The reason why the world needs to think critically on the issue of feminism is because of unity and working together to achieve the goals of the nation than separating. Promoting women’s leadership is a form of feminism, and embracing change are valid methods for supporting social improvements.
Reinforcement of women as persons with power is crucial for equality to ensure a healthy society that appreciates each other. Female leadership shows that the contemporary world needs to educate members of society on the need to embrace each other and appreciate their efforts rather than look down upon them (Smith et al., 2021). Examining cultural artifacts, specifically the TV program The Crown, can give various information regarding our society. Empowerment of female leaders is crucial to facilitating productive methods of supporting social changes (Miniesy et al., 2021). Thinking critically is vital on this subject matter since it will help enlighten women leaders to discover the direct industry they can work in to protect their health for a better tomorrow.
Method
The research shall be performed using rhetorical criticism since the technique is advanced and connects to reliable study improvement procedures. Rhetorical criticism is an advanced research method needed to interpret data in suitable ways that validate a study’s progress (Leeman, 2017). The method shall assist in analyzing persuasive text as it is a productive method of developing a better understanding of information. The research method which shall work appropriately with rhetorical criticism is qualitative research type which involves persons from different ethnic backgrounds, each having unique ethnicities. The approach shall facilitate better data collection for women’s thinking processes as it was determined that women need to be empowered.
Data analysis is a technique whereby data for the research gets used to create foresight for the topic studied. A qualitative methodology integrates collecting and analyzing numerical data from participants to develop a connection for the information getting researched. Data collected from surveys and questionnaires that are qualitative methodology types can ensure an accurate synthesis of information. Using questionnaires and surveys as an analytical tools to determine data connections is required to improve appropriate study considerations. The proposal shall be to use online surveys since many people today and the study’s participants rely on online communication procedures.
Connection of the research process to participants shall be possible by using a survey invitation message sent to potential participants’ emails using google forms to ensure they display their acceptance of the research. Invitation to participate in the research is the standard method to establish study development which is a suitable analysis method to support the topic’s direction. Peer-reviewed article analysis shall promote suitable argument analysis. Analysis of women’s empowerment shall then be the advanced method integrated to allow them to receive suitable growth improvements.
