5.1 Advertising (Discussion Forum)
How does advertising work? You might think that advertising does not work on you but if you think about it, you can probably come up with at least one product you tried because of advertising, or one store you checked out. If advertising did not work, there would not be advertisements everywhere and companies would not invest so heavily in advertising. Advertisers use a number of techniques to persuade such as celebrity endorsements or claims of limited supply. There is a current product being advertised on TV where you are told to call in the morning or the evening based on the first letter of your last name in an effort to establish the exclusivity of the product.
Write about one current advertisement and indicate at least three techniques being used in the ad to promote the product. To earn full credit for this activity, you must also comment on another post indicating how effective you think the ad described is.
be something like tossing a ball into a basket on the floor, or tying and untying a pair of shoes or winding an unwound fishing rod or inserting pegs into a peg board. Time each individual working alone to complete the task or for how long to do a certain number of repetitions.
Then compare this with the time taken when the individuals compete against each other. Ideally do this for a few pairs and see whether there is a social facilitation effect. Share your findings on the Discussion Forum.
PART A
Throughout the online course material there are Learning Activities. Choose from those marked “(Discussion Forum),” follow the specific instructions provided, and post in the appropriate forum.
Each posting should be approximately 200 words. Relate your answer to the course content. Answers which have no reference to topics covered in the module will not receive marks.

Remember that students come from all walks of life and a wide range of backgrounds so write in a respectful manner and be sure that your responses are supportive and non-judgmental even when you are questioning or challenging a point. Also provide evidence if you have a different perspective or experience.
GIVE RESPONSE ON BELOW- BY Alyssa Cayen
The advertisement that I have chosen to write about is a Nike advertisement that I have seen many times on television. I simply chose this advertisement because there are multiple messages to be found within this ad. Additionally, this advertisement uses many techniques that have made it effective for selling their products.
In the ad, the first two techniques that can be perceived would be credibility and likeability. Nike is a very popular brand that is recognized by thousands around the world. In this ad, we can see that only women are to be found in the ad. In addition, several professional soccer players from Europe are featured in the ad as well. Thus, this ad focuses on female empowerment in athletics and sports. This ad shows and inspires young girls that they can also be great soccer players like the athletes they look up to. Hence, the girls who look up to their favourite athlete in the ad will want to dress like them for their sports and want to purchase Nike products. Therefore, this aspect of the advertisement certainly brings credibility to this popular brand.
Furthermore, another technique that is evident throughout this ad are the positive emotions. The cinematography such as vibrant colours and upbeat music in this advertisement displayed on social media or on television can instantly captivate an individual’s attention. Depending on the situation, a success experience, breathtaking scenery, and pleasant music can lull us into a positive emotional state ripe for persuasion (Kassin et al., 2013, pg. 211). Not to mention that everyone appears to be enjoying themselves playing soccer and promoting Nike’s products all throughout the advertisement. All of these details can contribute to having positive emotions while watching the add and can lead to the viewers purchasing Nike products.
