Week 2: Brainstorming Site and Project Identification
Assignment Instructions:
Think about the following:
1. Identify the name and address of the potential DNP Project site/sites identified.
2. What problems have been identified at the site that could serve as a potential DNP Project?
3. Use the template below to complete this activity on at least 3 project ideas. Provide at least one key national/regulatory
guideline or standard to justify the significance of this project. (Example: Early Mobility in the ICU. Guideline link:
https://www.sccm.org/LearnICU/Resources/Early-Progressive-Mobility-in-the-ICU)
Project Site: Identify a practice setting/project site that you could potentially utilize for your DNP Project. Take time to discuss
current issues and problems at the site. Find an issue that interests you that you could address utilizing current evidence from the
literature.
Assess organizational buy in to addressing the issue through interviewing various stakeholders. *** If you can identify a current
issue that would have organizational buy-in and can be addressed with current evidence (not research of discovery) then this practice
site may be a viable option for the DNP Project.
Topic: Identify the proposed project topic.
Current Practice: Identify what is currently being done at the practice site to address the identified issue. Is there a protocol or
practice guideline in place to guide practice? If so, is it up to date with current evidence? Will your project contribute to improving
practice through current evidence? Is there significant financial burden involved with your proposal? (High-cost projects often take
years to approve so they don’t work well in DNP Projects)
Significance: Explain the significance of the problem in the practice of nursing leadership within the practice setting of your choice.
To validate this concern at a local level, consider contacting stakeholders (nurse leaders and other collaborative partners) in your area
with experience pertaining to the topic of interest to glean insight on the issue. Use your experiences to substantiate these positions.
Document time spent in the practice environment in your practicum hour logs.

Outcomes: What outcomes will you hope to impact through implementing this project? Leadership DNP Projects should affect
system level healthcare outcomes, should be measurable, and directly or indirectly correlate to the intervention. Examples: Reduced
cost of care, reduced ventilator time, improved nursing retention, reduced intraoperative errors, improved STD screening rates.
Examples of unacceptable outcomes: Improved staff understanding of a concept.

Hint: Generally, leadership projects are directed at staff and only indirectly
impact patient care- no direct patient care is allowed. Remember in the community setting the public is considered your patient.
