“Organizations do not commonly have systems in place to support clinicians in the development of EBP tools. The impact of the organization’s culture is a strong one; in one study, nurses reported that their colleagues lack of support for changing practice was one of the most formidable barriers to EBP” (Houser, 19). Change is a common barrier for EBP especially when those who are in practice have learned a certain way and don’t want to change what they are doing because it works for them. It is hard for those who want to implement change to do so when there are a lot of other nurses who like the “old way” and don’t want to change therefore causing complications. One Strategy used to facilitate the use of evidence to help improve nursing care for patients is education and training because it can “improve knowledge and strength practitioners’ beliefs of EBP” (Houser,20). I believe education is a major aspect of evidence-based practice and continued educations for nurses can help aide in implementing the evidence because once it is learned then the only way to understand if it works best for patients is by putting the skill to practice.
I still believe nursing research is a long and hard field of nursing and requires a lot of time and dedication whereas the evidence-based portion of practice is more manageable just because I already work on a Med/Surg floor, so I appreciate and look forward to implementing and learning new skills especially if it benefits my patients in the long term. One new thing I learned during this course that I believe is helpful is the types of research positions that work best depending on what is trying to be implemented. For Example; Quasi-Experimental Research is research to examine the cause-and-effect relationships between selected variables. I believe this is important especially while working on the floor because it allows us to critically think what is happening to our patient and what may be the cause of it.
