Hello Professor and classmates,
A review of the data presented by the National Sample Survey of Registered Nurses (NSSRN) presents facts on the previous, current, and expected nursing workforce status in terms of their demographic, education level, job growth, age, salaries, and trends. One key attribute in the sample includes disparities in the workforce, with White and non-Hispanic registered nurses by race and ethnicity accounting for 73.3%. In contrast, 26.7% are occupied by minority ethnic and racial groups (NSSRN, 2019). Regarding age, nurses are relatively sufficient to replace those who are aging and are projected to retire. The average age of an RN nurse is 50 years, and nurses below 50 years accounted for 53% (NSSRN, 2019).
Some of the factors I found interesting in the survey include men in nursing having a higher median earning of $79 928 compared to female nurses earning $71 960 (NSSRN, 2019). Male and female nurses with the same qualification should earn equal salaries. The use of telehealth registering 32.9% (NSSRN, 2019) is interesting. Technology is proving to improve the quality of healthcare services (Houser, 2023). The intent of sharing these results is for nurses to quickly embrace technological use in health and improve equity in terms of earning despite gender differences.
A reliable data collection instrument is consistent and stable in giving results, while validity means the data collected from a tool make sense to the researcher (Clark & Watson, 2019). A reliable instrument ensures accurate results, while the instrument’s validity ensures the integrity and quality of the collected data. One of the data collection methods I need to familiarize myself with is combination research.
