Classmate 1:
What are some of the salient characteristics defining diversity and culture in your organization or group?
Some characteristics that define my workplace culture involve the display of a warm, friendly, caring workplace environment that is well staffed with competent mental healthcare providers. Johnson, C. (2021) stated ethical and healthy workplace cultures often encompasses the use of integrity, consistency, transparency, coupled with ethical soundness. The owner of the organization set the climate by sharing personal and professional beliefs, ethics, values, and employees’ conduct expectations. However, clerks denying poor people of color access to free psychotherapy services can be considered unfair and unethical workplace practices. The organization’s intake clerks are related to the organization’s owner. The clerks are trained to use/save the free treatment slots for their friends and family members. The general public is not aware of this unethical and unfair treatment of poor people of color. The said people are being denied services based on their inability to pay for services.
Organizations are impacted by societal changes. As a leader, what organizational changes would you considered essential due to ongoing social changes both locally and globally?
The digital age has arrived. Organizations are impacted by the use of modern technology. Hickman (2016) noted some technologies that may impact the business world consist of; voice recognition software, industrial robots, and automated response systems. Additionally, with the help of the internet, it is now possible to communicate and transact business in real time with people in different parts of the world. Thus, global business transactions can be conducted from the comforts of our living rooms by using internet technology. Tele-healthcare is currently prevalent within my organization, due to the pandemic that forced the use of tele-healthcare. The change in the organization involves the way clients can now access their therapists. To accommodate clients seeking psychotherapy and may not be able to travel to the facility for services, he or she can now receive services in the comfort of their own homes. Technology will continue to grow with more innovations that can have positive impacts on all types of organizations.

Classmate 2:
The salient features of diversity and culture at my workplace include inclusion and cultural competence. The salient dimensions of culture and diversity are the unique traits reflective of the values that are entrenched in an organization’s culture, and the different expectations and meanings associated with these values (Spataro, 2005). Inclusion serves as a salient characteristic of my organization’s culture because my workplace (an elementary school) seeks to create an environment where all students and staff feel accepted, supported, and valued. Inclusion enriches organizational culture and promotes diversity in employee backgrounds, abilities, and perspectives. Inclusion also brings people together in an environment where they can learn, grow and contribute to the organizational process per their abilities (Hickman, 2015). Cultural competence seeks to acknowledge and respect the diversity in cultural identities, values, and beliefs among students and staff. Embracing cultural competence promotes professionalism, mutual respect, and learning.
In recent years, I have witnessed a surge in the population of racial minority students joining my organization. A social change potentially behind this trend is the increased immigration of ethnic minorities and their growing population in the United States. While there is an increasing population of minority students in my workplace, there is no increase in the number of teachers identifying as ethnic minorities. As a leader in my organization, I seek a future where the teachers are as ethnically diverse as their students. This objective requires organizational changes to promote the hiring of ethnic-minority teachers. Generally, ethnic minorities are disproportionately represented in organizations and many companies are making changes such as contracting diversity consultants or establishing diversity programs (Hickman, 2015). These organizational changes may help promote a more ethnically- diverse teaching staff at my workplace preserving inclusion and cultural competence as the salient characteristic of the organization’s culture.
