Response to discussion 3 minimum 100 words for each
It is the middle of the school year, you are holding conferences with the parents, and you have asked them to bring their children with them to the conference. One of your students, Russ, has average to low test scores, but occasionally shows a spark of interest in reading, especially when it touches a personal interest. How will you present your results to this parent? How will you share your data? How will you encourage Russ?

I would tell Russ’ parents about his reading interest first. I would explain that his reading spark is in any personal interest that Russ has. I would wait to receive feedback from Russ or his parents. I would then mention Russ’ test scores. I would have 2 charts, of Russ’ test scores, that has been printed. One print out would be for the parents and one for me. I would explain how his test scores were average to low. I would explain to Russ and his parents my ideas of helping Russ to get his grades higher. I would tell this family that I am interested in the Russ’ success. My ideas would center around Russ’ interest. One idea would be to allow Russ to pick his own books for reading. I would have Russ complete a one page essay on why he is interested in that particular book. I would also ask Russ and his parents what do they think about my ideas. I would also ask for their ideas as to what they think would help Russ to get higher grades.

I would present the results to the parents by first sharing positive things, such as his interest in reading when it’s about his personal interest, and then discuss the test scores that Russ has been receiving. To present my data to the parents, I would show the parents a chart showing a scale of the highest and lowest test scores, and I would specify where Russ is on that chart. I would then explain how since he has received average test scores, he can continue to do so. I would continue to encourage Russ by telling him that he can receive higher test scores and that it is something that we can all work on together. I would also find resources that are relevant to the situation. For example, if he is struggling with vocabulary, I would find an online game that can help improve his vocabulary.
