Some experts have declared North American manufacturing industry is doomed. China, Mexico, and “robots” are taking our jobs. Over the past 20 years, manufacturing output has increased by approximately 40% but we have lost tens of thousands of jobs. The average age of a manufacturing worker is 45. This could be a trend of losing talented workers that will be hard to replace.
However, when jobs go to Mexico or China, they are lost. Robots replace workers and the company stays in the US, somebody has to run the robots. In addition, robots do dangerous tasks, clean up dirty work areas, and don’t require healthcare or paid vacation.
Question: Are robots good for the manufacturing industry? Write one paragraph on why robots are a good substitute for American workers and one paragraph on why robots are not good substitutes.
