Quantitative research is based on a traditional, formal, objective, scientific approach in which numbers are collected and used to produce knowledge or information (Houser, 2018; Polit & Beck, 2018). When I see Quantitative, I think of objectives and observer, and I remember the two terms by remembering the “O” in both terms. Another way I remember what quantitative research is, is I correlate it with the term numbers because quantitative is based on numbers.
Qualitative Research is based on a naturalistic belief system and is focused on understanding the meaning of an experience from the individual’s perspective (Houser, 2018; Polit & Beck, 2018).
When I see Qualitative, I think the of the quality of life and the way we perceive things to remember the difference between the two research strategies. Another way to remember the qualitative research is it Is subjective data meaning what is being said in the research is what is to be considered.
Quasi-Experimental Research is research to examine cause-and-effect relationships between selected variables; often conducted in clinical settings to examine the effects of nursing interventions on patient outcomes (Taylor,35). Quai- experimental research can help study nursing problems because it can be studied in the clinical setting with patient interactions to determine what works and what doesn’t for the betterment of the patient population.
Referring to the priority problem and evidence I chose in week 3 which was: Pressure Injuries due to impaired mobility, does skin barrier creams, pressure dressings and turning rates of patients decrease the amount of hospital acquired pressure injuries.
I believe the Quasi-Experimental Research which is considered a Quantitative Research Process would aide in this study problem because using this process will allow us to research in the clinical setting, with real life patients to understand what we are doing wrong and what we could be doing better for our patients to prevent increased hospitalization, unbearable pain, and poor skin integrity. “Quantitative designs are appropriate when the purpose of the study is to measure the effect of an intervention, test a theory about relationships, or describe a phenomenon with precision” (Houser,131). As stated above, Quasi-Experimental Research process is designed to examine cause-and-effect relationships between selected variables; often conducted in clinical settings to examine the effects of nursing interventions on patient outcomes.
