PICOT Question
PICOT Question: In adults over the age of 65 with Type 2 Diabetes (Population), what is the effect of a lifestyle modification program (Intervention) compared to standard care (Comparison) on improved glycemic control (Outcome) within 12 months (Time)?
This PICOT question is essential for research into the effects of lifestyle medication programs on glycemic control for older adults with Type 2 Diabetes. It aids in gaining a better understanding of how such programs could be beneficial to this group of patients. A study comparing the outcome of adults placed under a lifestyle modification program for 12 months compared to those who received standard care will help understand the effects of the intervention.
Research focusing on this PICOT question would assess the effects of lifestyle modification on glycemic control in adults over 65 with Type 2 Diabetes. Mainly, the PICOT question would allow the researcher to determine the differences in glycemic control within 12 months among adults placed under the intervention group compared with those in the comparison group (received standard care) (Megahed et al., 2021). A randomized trial would be utilized to conduct research. The research participants would be adults 65 years and above diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. They would be randomly assigned to either the intervention or comparison groups. At the end of 12 months, health outcomes will be evaluated for participants from both groups. The effectiveness of the lifestyle modification program will be assessed through researchers gathering data on participants’ glycemic control at baseline and after 12 months (Shin et al., 2020). Using descriptive and inferential statistics such as t-tests would help identify the differences in glycemic control between intervention and comparison groups. The outcomes of the analysis will help to address the PICOT question and to evaluate the effectiveness of the lifestyle modification program in improving glycemic control among older adults with Type 2 Diabetes.
Overall, this PICOT question helps understand the effect of lifestyle modification programs on glycemic control among diabetic patients, particularly older adults with Type 2 Diabetes. The outcomes based on data collected from both groups at the end of the study period will inform on the efficacy of such programs.
