S.A. Discussion #1
The biggest differences between a manager and a leader include a manager focuses on the daily operation of the company as a whole. A leader will supervise and push their team to the common goal of management. A manager may have several leaders under them leading an even smaller group of a specific department. For example, a store manager versus the team leader of the various departments.
The biggest trait for either a manager or leader is to be a role model. Executing the actions that they are expecting of their team. It also important, in my opinion, to be a good listener and advocate change for their team if something is not working within a workflow. Open communication is also a key to being a successful manager or leader because people on your team should be able to reciprocate their feelings as openly as when given direction about a task or responsibility. It can be very difficult to keep staff or execute a vision when a manager or leader is tyrannical and talks down to their subordinates.
K.W. Discussion #2
A manager is a person who oversees a vision and works hard to meet the end goal. A leader is a person who works on a a vision and teaches. A manager is someone who manages an organization as to a leader works to meet little goals to make it easier for the manager. The main experience I have with leadership is my military career. In the military we have team leaders and squad leaders who teach the troops how to be good troops and be ready for the mission the platoon sergeant has in order. In the military the platoon sergeant would be considered the manager.
A trait I think that would be most effective for a manager or a leader is communication. The leaders and managers work hand in hand in my opinion. The managers need leaders to be able to execute the mission. They nee date leaders to teach the rest of the employees and to get on board of everything to make the mission easier to accomplish. Another trait that they would need is time management and organizational skills. Things need time to be accomplished correctly and without organization the process would be chaotic.
